Hi there!
To some it’s obvious but to others it isn’t so I’ll explain. The name “karebou” comes from a conjugation of Karen Rubado. That’s me. It also comes from the fact that a long while ago I wanted a new last name. I didn’t like Rubado. You can imagine the childhood taunts. So one day while walking down the street with a friend I saw a sign that said “karibou” on someone’s house and I thought…what a great name that would be! Karen Karibou! But then I thought it sounded like a movie star name or possibly even a porn star name so I ditched the idea. In any case, it stuck with me and has now been the name of my design studio.
Now a bit about me. I’ve been designing and building standards compliant and SEO friendly websites for over eight years now. Before I started working for myself I was the lead designer at Netconcepts in Auckland where I worked for nearly five years. Prior to returning to New Zealand I lived in the U.S. and was a web designer and project manager for Interland (now web.com).
